Peter K.:

Greetings, Stork! Lovely show so far, but what is your source for saying that Tony Williams wrote "So Long"? To the best of my knowledge, it was written by Gil Evans (and sounds like it). Tony Williams DID write "There Comes a Time," the title track of the album that contains this track. But if he also wrote "So Long," a lot of online sources are wrong.

Stork, sir, I have a question. On discogs on the album, "There Comes A Time" I don't see a selection titled "So Long". I'm not familiar with either that tune or that album but on the discogs listing I do see that Tony Williams wrote the album title track, "There Comes a Time"...
Avatar 12:53pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Björk's first name is technically pronounced more like burka is - if it were instead Byurk ...my understanding which is almost always limited. Certainly for Icelandic proper nouns.
Avatar 12:56pm
Stork:

Hey WR, thanks, it looks like I blew that one. Peter K was the first to jump on that. Dang! I misread it. Apologies to Gil Evans up there, who should have gotten the credit.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm

Sorry, more dance nerdness: Acogny was seating just in front of me during that show (a big one, with 30 dancers), so I often checked what she was looking at and followed her gaze

(The link in posted says Tony Williams is composer...there's at least since differing opinions on it...)

Well, I just rechecked and the listing I see clearly sez Gil Evans wrote it, as Peter K pointed out. Don't know why I didn't see it. I'm gonna go put on the coney hat and sit in the corner for a while.

Uncle Michael:

Is it too late to say I'm with you on that Bjork album, Stork?
Avatar 1:05pm
Stork:

Here's Scott Yanow's comment on the version of the album I have:
This CD reissue of Gil Evans' There Comes a Time differs greatly from the original LP of the same name. Not only are there three previously unreleased performances ("Joy Spring," "So Long," and "Buzzard Variation"), but "The Meaning of the Blues" has been expanded from six minutes to 20, and two numbers, "Little Wing" and "Aftermath the Fourth Movement/Children of the Fire," have been dropped (the former was reissued on Evans' Jimi Hendrix tribute album) and the remaining four tracks were re-edited and remixed under Evans' direction.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
doctorjazz:

Actually, I misread it, Tony Williams wrote the title track...(what happens on a quick search while in the road)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:08pm

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:08pm

The Gil Evans discussion reminds me:

Gill (sic) Evans
4oz Glen Passaic
tea towel
garnishes

Arrange four shot glasses on a tray. Pour 1oz (1/4 gill) Glen Passaic into each. Garnish one with a #2 tenor saxophone reed, one with a brass key, one with a few pieces of skin, and the last with a small ivory figurine. Wait for garnishes to dissolve, about 1/2 hour. Bend head over tray, drape tea towel over head, and inhale til glasses are empty.
