Randal:

When first played on Radio One on John Peel's show, the album was taken from a reel to reel tape that had been stored 'tail out' (standard record company practice), but played as if it had been stored 'front out' (standard BBC practice) - the resulting broadcast was of the entire album played in reverse. Both Fripp and Eno (in separate locations) heard some of the broadcast. When Eno phoned the BBC to inform them that the music was being played in reverse, he was met with a "that's what they all say.." response. As this was how many people in the UK initially heard the album, the reverse version has been recreated for this release.

Toyah does theatre stuff. maybe she's good at that. but she wont be in the books as having an impact on music, and if she's more well-known in the uk it's because she appeals to the younger generations...the masses... the people who don't actually listen to music.

Who decides which famous people are justifiably famous because of their artistical merit? That's totally subjective. My jazz fan dad didn't think most non-jazz had any artistic merit. I disagreed. Someone listening right now thinks that this Mnemonists stuff is just noise. Fabio disagrees.

So there are facts, and there are opinions. Toyah is well-known in the UK, which is a fact, and she will probably be remembered there for the things that have made her famous there.

In the US, she's known as Fripp's wife, if she's known at all. He's hardly famous among the general public, himself.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Handy Haversack:

The idea that unfamiliar disease wiped out Indigenous populations is missing a lot of the nuance of what happened. The settler-colonists intentionally and maliciously disrupted the foodways of the natives. They starved them. Harried them. Drove them from their homes. And THAT is what made them such easy prey for the novel diseases. It is exactly why COVID has done such disproportionate damage to poor communities and communities of color in this country.

McG @421 nobody on this side of my computer said anything about justifiability, good or bad, or even my preferences. all i'm saying is that in the world of music, one of those people made an impact, and one did not - despite present popularity.
...a history of music would be grossly incomplete without mentioning "progressive rock", regardless of the fairly small fanbase; any mention of prog would be remiss to not mention king crimson.
...whereas, Toyah, whether one likes her or not, is just another pop musician. there are countless artists in her "genre" and within that genre she's done nothing above or beyond the standard.

... (this part IS my opinion... or not, maybe) - an 80s pop artist among many, doing standard querky, "edgy", predictable pop that wouldn't get much attention without the visual accompaniment.

But hey, we must remind ourselves that even though 95° sux, it's still better than 105°.

Hi guys! Netflix the streaming service does suck, but they still send red envelopes in the mail. I use it for stuff I can't find on Criterion or Mubi or Kanopy.

I use my parents account, and rarely at that. If you're into tactical games Into The Breach was just made available on iOS and Android through Netflix. Not the best situation but it's a really great strategy game that I am horrible at.

McGroovey, 91 with 42% humidity in San Gabriel, CA. Cooler than where you are (for a change)

Just got back from a walk to and from the local overpriced grocery store. And let me tell you if I were made out of dough I'd be a fully baked loaf of bread right now.

Diabolically good tunes. Thanks Mr. Fabio!

@chresti it's actually 86° right now. "Feels like 96" according to weather.com. I guess I could figure out what % humidity, but that would require thinking. It's cool (relatively) because a rain storm blew through this afternoon.

Yeah, we've had a cool summer in the NYC area, and the current heat is actually normal.

I grew up without air conditioning, and my wife is from New Orleans, so in a normal year we only run the air conditioner for the hottest 2 or 3 weeks of summer. That's now.

Don't sweat it Philip, chances are they'll be an equally comparable DJ that will be a little different than Fabio but still very much in the same vein of a show that he would normally do. That's usually the pattern that I'm able to observe. You'll see
