On a drummerly note, I see that the jazz baby in the picture is using a matched grip.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:57am
KimSorise:

She is! Good morning, Bob. Is a matched grip common?
Avatar 8:59am
bobdc:

I think of it as more common in rock and less common in jazz, but I'm not a real drummer. And, since I wrote that above, I have gotten sucked into en.wikipedia.org... The juxtaposition of the last two pictures on that page is great.

Thanks for the welcome Kim! Sorry I missed last Sunday's festival too Irene.. What a beautiful day to be outside!! Last time I saw Julian was at Music Hall of Williamsburg - pre pandemic. I went with some of my former colleagues from Rudy's Music. Julian is a friend of the shop.. He and his trio packed the venue, with a predominantly under 40's audience. Most everyone was familiar with Julian's original compositions, although the trio's encore of Ornette's "Blues Connotation" from the "This is Our Music" Lp wasn't something they recognized.. It was so heartening to be in a packed venue with a younger audience than usual for guitar trios, who were familiar with Julian's recent music! It just may turn on a whole new generation to musicians like Ornette!
