Being my age - 58 - Disco seemed like our Depression or WWII. Live venues switched to Disco - there was nothing else on the Radio ever ...yer Dad wanted to be JohnTravolta. The jocks loved it. & it seemed to go on for years & years like it would never end. Sorry - it was absolutely horrible & traumatic. People see it as ironic & cute now. It was a horror & a blight.

Always say this - all the docs & analyses spin it that Punk was a reaction to Prog. To me - it was a reaction to Disco. Of course that was then & this is now. I see it differently in the present. Primarily - I think Disco was quite different in Urban & NotUrban environments. It was not about Queers, HardDrugUsers or People of Color where I was! Also - Disco had an Arc to it - as most things do. It started as one thing & became commercialized & exploited - & that was mostly what reached us. & by us I mean the friends I smoked dope with in HighSchool in Claremont, NewHampshire - pop. 15,000 north of northeast of nowhere...

My point is partly that I don't ever recall punks hating on prog rock or anything else. More likely we embraced it all. Shoot, we were just folks who liked music.

I've always been a Mediahead - so the gushing firehose of the Interwebz - I love the access. Like right here ! Social Media is a completely new thing for Society tho of course. facebook felt like moving to a new town & standing nekkid in the Square. The ways it connects us powerfully & yet connects us *not @ all* is quite strange. Like participating in people's mental health crises in real time @ great distances. Pretty much an introvert here too. When we moved here It wasn’t long before Covid, and it was not long after I quit drinking, so my world got totally flipped — in a place where I didn’t know anyone, forced isolation cuz of the Covid, and then when stuff opened up, no liquor to chase away the social anxiety to meet new people.
