THis is the show that introduced 'Hey Big SPender" And very interesting - i can hear the tune in this.
Avatar 12:08pm
Ursula1000:

I feel like Bob Fosse should get credit here since all I can see in my mind is that awesome choreography!

Swanky sounds, Urs!

hi Rich!

that bass line! Where do I know it from..?
Avatar 12:16pm

Avatar 12:17pm

Avatar 12:18pm
Ursula1000:

it's very 60s pop psych
Avatar 12:18pm
Mr Fab:

maybe it's just something that SHOULD be sampled!
Avatar 12:21pm
Mr Fab:

ah, remembering the days when I found these records for 50 cents...

Maybe a dollar if I wanted to be extravagant! One could very quickly and cheaply build up quite the Hugo Montenegro collection
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
D Rok:

classic
Avatar 12:22pm
spodiodi:

awwwwww shucks. i'm going to start chair dancing!
Avatar 12:22pm
Mr Fab:

i actually found Garson Kingley's "Popcorn" album for TEN cents! It's like, record stores were just givin' 'em away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
D Rok:

@spodiodi: same.
Avatar 12:22pm
Ursula1000:

Oh totally! I scored huge when I was living in Miami w all the retirees dumping their Phase 4's and Moog LPs!
Avatar 12:24pm
Mr Fab:

GERSHON kinglsey. But yeah, I guess that's what it was - folks who bought these records were not having too many cocktail parties anymore, downsizing after the kids moved out, let's just dump all these old records.
Avatar 12:26pm
Ursula1000:

and in some cases like in parts of Miami you had retirees who had bucks and probably good stereo systems way back when so a lot of these Hi Fidelity records were everywhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember finding that Hot Butter LP in a crappy Salvation Army store, with popcorn box still affixed to cover and in shrinkwrap but the record was missing, but it was the only time in all my years of crate digging where I was able to find the record (and in great shape!) in the many, many stacks of loosey-goosey records in the store. A miracle I've never since duplicated.

Feldy:

I could live in Bongolia, if it were a country
Avatar 1:06pm
Ursula1000:

Sounds like a plan Feld! BTW unrelated but I know yr a Charles Burns fan...I got a nice copy of Raw #4 that has a 9 page story he did called “The Voice of Walking Flesh” that hasn't been reprinted anywhere. Cool to see his early 80s style!
Avatar 1:07pm
Mr Fab:

i like how he pronounced it "sick-adelic."
Avatar 1:07pm
Ursula1000:

haha noticed that too Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Feldy:

U1K: Where did you find a copy of RAW?! I haven't seen that story
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Feldy:

Also, Stereolab would live in 'Outer Bongolia'
Avatar 1:11pm
Ursula1000:

We have a great here in Brooklyn called Desert Island. I noticed it on the shelf and it was on my list of stories by him that haven't been reprinted in like Big Baby, etc

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Feldy:

Oh yeah, I've been to Desert Island, that place is awesome. I bought some cool zines there. RAW #4 going for $275 on ebay currently. SCORE!
Avatar 1:14pm
Ursula1000:

I lucked out and got it for 60! here's a link to see 2 pages plus his cover lars.ingebrigtsen.no...
Avatar 1:20pm
Mr Fab:

that was the issue that i discovered Raw, because I'd heard the "Reagan Speaks For HimSelf" flexi, and wanted to buy the mag just for that.
Avatar 1:21pm
Ursula1000:

sadly that flexi wasn't there :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Rich in Washington:

The version of Reagan Speaks (...) on the Sub Pop 5 cassette compilation predates the RAW flexi version and has slightly different dialog. The latter is more readily available than the former cassette, which can fetch hundreds of dollars in the used market.
Avatar 1:31pm
Ursula1000:

i'll have to hunt that track down...never heard it b4
Avatar 1:33pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Feldy:

What a great find, U1K. Thanks for the link to the ink
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Rich in Washington:

It was also sampled (sans any accreditation) by Fine Young Cannibals on the flipside to Johnny Come Home (as Good Times And Bad) in '85
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
Rich in Washington:

I've played it bunches on my shows.
