Favoriting Cratedigger's Lung with Rich In Washington: Playlist from February 4, 2022 Favoriting

Rich in Washington's avatar View Rich in Washington's profile Favoriting

A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

First thing I did when this Melvins album came out was rush over to hear Night Goat. Did not disappoint.

Burroughs' voice is sometimes reminiscent of Simon Bar Sinister. or vice versa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
ultradamno:

Beefheart falls into that too, when he's in less Wolf, more evil wizard mode, like Making Love To A Vampire or Brickbats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
MHLee:

Burroughs voice is uniquely menacing in the way

John Giorno put out all those great comps, put his own readings on them, and then I never heard anyone play his stuff. honestly, i don't remember his tracks either, so maybe he's not that hot? But thanks for the comps, John.

Tom Waits does some good readings too... worked with him though

I got to lay eyes on Burroughs once. It was at a gallery show in Chicago full of stuff he shot. Grant Hart was with him. Grant wearing eyeliner, a lovely scarf, and a huge smile. Both men were happy as can be, and it was a tonic to see. I didn't speak to them, I was with a guy who belonged there and could hail the two by name. I didn't dare to disturb the vibe, I just took it in.

I'd think there'd be a loss of potency, at the least.

Burroughs' (and Gus Van Sant's) Elvis of Letters ep is something i used to listen to a lot.

Zipperhead7:

I saw Burroughs give a reading at U of Kansas. A high school English class attended, and it was hilarious to see them start taking notes and then graduallly stop and just stare at him as he delivered a torrent of perversity

I meant to call out the good overlay of the soundtracks and the poetry earlier! I believe I heard this sleep chamber on WZBC Boston College's 'no commercial potential' show when I was in high school and was blown away by the whole genre. (Also that a Jesuit college had that going on.)
