Playlist for Irene Trudel - May 3, 2004

Mondays Noon - 3pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Little fluffy clouds of music, occasionally darkened by sonic thunderheads; with a sunny lining of stringed instruments and live performances now and then.

May 3, 2004: Setting the stage for a triple bill with Michael Hurley, Josef Van Wissem with Gary Lucas, and the Moe!kestra!
(Michael Hurley appeared on both John Allen and Irene Trudel's programs. To hear Pt 1 go to John Allen's playlist for the same day.)

Live performance and conversation with Michael Hurley (Part 1 started in John Allen's show, and you can get there by clicking here. Scroll down to get to the time link for the start of Michael's set.)

Noted for his charmingly simple songs with a storytelling side and a twinkle in his eye, Michael Hurley has to his credit many solo albums, and was a former member of the Holy Modal Rounders. Michael recorded a live set of music for John Allen and I while downtown in NYC last week. Since we're both fans, we decided to split the hour. You can find out more about Michael Hurley (including available recordings and some of Michael's nifty comics) by visiting his website.

Live performance by the Moe!kestra!

And if all this is not enough, The Moe!kestra! is presented as the show closer. The brainchild of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's dadaist percussionist Moe! Staiano, he puts aside is arsenal ofpipes, food pans, pressure caps, sheet metals, nick-nacks & other stuff that has been found, given or stolen (mainly from Pizza Hut when he worked there including a nifty Spatula that he bows) for a conductor's role. Moe! gathered a number of NYC musicians + Sleepytime pals to present a free-range musical extravaganza at Sin-e“last month, the result of which is presented here. More info on the Moe!kestra! is available at the Sleepytime Gorrilla Museum website.
