	♥ 3:52pm Passaic River Blues: I was recently thinking about "The Fix," a book by Michael Massing I read in 1998, which holds that in the very early period of the War on Drugs (more or less the Nixon Administration) national policy actually was increasingly on the right track. Yes, there was focus on enforcement and standing up the DEA, but there was also growing HEW funding for a network of drug treatment clinics across the country that were showing demonstrably better results and at lower costs than trying to jail our way out of the problem. Massing showed how it was during Reagan's reign that, for foul ideological reasons, national policy was changed to focus almost solely on interdiction and punitive measures. It was an eye-opening reading as a teenager that not only was War on Drugs an insane farce, but that we already knew the right answer and have had to relearn our lesson over and over again. Also, Rita and the Tiaras' "Gone with the Wind" is EPIC, and which I first heard here on SBB!

Also, a number of years ago I was in area record store, and some record dudes from the UK were there looking for soul 45s. I was a few bins ahead and pulled a 45 out as a joke and said “huh, Rita & the Tiaras, wonder if that’s any good, I’ll try it for a few dollars” … and the look I got from them was intense. Then I told them it was a joke and we all had a good laugh. And each picked up a Fred Darian “Strong Man” 45, which I later found also by Davy Crockett himself Fess Parker.

The incarceration of people for drug policy violations (that argument goes) is an extension of Jim Crow and accomplishes many of the same outcomes. Loss of ability to vote, etc… The other argument is prohibition is counter productive if your goal is safer communities…. Coke is NOW worth more than Gold is, gram for gram. This incentivizes otherwise law abiding people to sell the stuff and puts drugs into every highschool in small town America!!! That is called the “crime tariff” and prohibiting these substances has been an objective failure. Pragmatism was used to overturn Alcohol prohibition. We can do it again

	♥ 3:52pm Passaic River Blues: I was recently thinking about "The Fix," a book by Michael Massing I read in 1998, which holds that in the very early period of the War on Drugs (more or less the Nixon Administration) national policy actually was increasingly on the right track. Yes, there was focus on enforcement and standing up the DEA, but there was also growing HEW funding for a network of drug treatment clinics across the country that were showing demonstrably better results and at lower costs than trying to jail our way out of the problem. Massing showed how it was during Reagan's reign that, for foul ideological reasons, national policy was changed to focus almost solely on interdiction and punitive measures. It was an eye-opening reading as a teenager that not only was War on Drugs an insane farce, but that we already knew the right answer and have had to relearn our lesson over and over again. Also, Rita and the Tiaras' "Gone with the Wind" is EPIC, and which I first heard here on SBB!

Also, a number of years ago I was in area record store, and some record dudes from the UK were there looking for soul 45s. I was a few bins ahead and pulled a 45 out as a joke and said “huh, Rita & the Tiaras, wonder if that’s any good, I’ll try it for a few dollars” … and the look I got from them was intense. Then I told them it was a joke and we all had a good laugh. And each picked up a Fred Darian “Strong Man” 45, which I later found also by Davy Crockett himself Fess Parker.

This incentivizes otherwise law abiding people to sell the stuff and puts drugs into every highschool in small town America!!!
