That mistake in the opening was due to my initial, incorrect reading of chart data, reading the weeks charted instead of the Pop position. So there's that...

Mike Sin:

I'm guessing most folks have seen Sly and the Family Stone tear the house down at Woodstock, but, man, just catching his performance 50 years after the fact in the "Summer of Soul" movie this years proves that Woodstock was no fluke. He and his band were tremendous during these shows!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Mike! Yeah, they were kicking ass and taking names. There used to be a clip on Youtube of a performance at some midwestern fair that was mind boggling.

Larry, was Direction an offshoot of Columbia?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm

Direction was a CBS subsidiary in the UK
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Funky16Corners:

I think it was mostly soul stuff, since i'm sure I have CBS UK 45s
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
listener Rey:

Hi Larry, and everyone. Good hellraisin' theme for today.
@erica
Didn't care for the Peggy Lee cover. It was funk & soul-deficient and lyrics didn't feel sincere.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Rey!
  3:55pm
Andres:

I’m guessing at least a couple of songs here today that could fill a program of versions.
  3:56pm
Andres:

Also, digging this Lonnie Smith version!

I think you're probably right. There are a ton of versions of Sing a Simple Song

Peggy herself was ok Larry. It was just that song we didn't care for. I don't hate it, just don't have the same feelings about it like you do.

Hopey Sockmonkey:

I was fortunate enough to see Miss Peggy Lee and Mel Torme at the Hollywood Bowl in the late 90s. I thought she was still pretty groovy. :)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Hopey! Peggy had it going on. A very complicated, but prodigiously talented woman.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I know, I was just kidding around.
Avatar 🥁 4:19pm
Erica:

Oh okay Larry. I just didn't want to hurt your feelings. Cause once I saw someone's top 10 playlist was weird and I got accused of being disrespectful.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Funky16Corners:

No worries at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
dreamyandseedy:

Larry, on average, how long does it take for you to put together your show?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Alex In Illinois:

The "Thank You ... " song reminds me of an SNL skit with Kevin Bacon portraying Vanilla Ice and Chris Rock playing a character showing Vanilla Ice how to dance. Someone else was portraying Colin Powell also joining the Chris Rock character in showing Vanilla Ice how to dance.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Funky16Corners:

@dreamy - It depends on the show. I'm working almost entirely from my own records (with some exceptions) most of which I have recorded/banked on my hard drives. As soon as I come up with a concept, then I start making a list of what I want to play (and search the database to find things I didn't remember) and then once I have the songs, putting the playlist together. Usually takes 2 or 3 hours from start to finish.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Alex! I'll have to look for that.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Funky16Corners:

@dreamy - Longer if I have to go looking for something and/or record it for the first time
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Funky16Corners:

It also pays to mention that my brain is in show idea/playlist mode about half the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
dreamyandseedy:

i was so curious, thank you for letting me know, it's so obvious that all your shows are made with a lot of careful thought and attention, i definitely assumed it took you longer!
it makes sense that you think about it for a lot longer than you physically work on it
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, there's always something cooking on the back burner. Sometimes I'll think up a rough idea, make a note in my phone and then come back to it much later on
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Funky16Corners:

Also, sometimes no matter how much thought I give it, I miss things. I already thought of a few things I missed since this show started
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
dreamyandseedy:

well that is ok bc it leaves room for a part 2!
