'twas actually Melle Mel, apart from the Furious Five. THey didn't just sample, they just plain ripped it off. And then Sugarhill Records fought Liquid Liquid's label 99 Records for 5 bloody years, refusing to pay up. They even sent goons over to 99 to intimidate them. ultimately, Sugarhill weaseled out of it by declaring bankruptcy. The guy from 99 got so fed up he quit music and moved to Europe. Horrible story.
