Hi Marco, David, james, chresti and Stanley! I'm in a very laid-back mode, following a beautiful afternoon at Jones Beach on Long Island yesterday. The perfection was interrupted by a shark sighting, so no swimming. Only got the toes wet. But I'm still totally relaxed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Irene Trudel:

Me too, Marco! We had an old friend visiting last week who lives in Hawaii full time. I'm envious!
Avatar 12:13pm
HyperDose:

Those bird sounds were a lovely accompaniment to my mouthwash swishing. Highly recommend!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
listener james from westwood:

I hear that laid-back sentiment! I've been off since Thursday—August slowdown in publishing FTW. Next wave of work could come any time this week, but maybe not, which is also AOK after a very busy May–July. Dear friend and fellow copy editor who I've been video-chatting with during All This (and who'd I'd ordinarily have seen at conferences) was visiting NJ for a wedding this Sat and added time to her trip so we could hang. She had never been to a NJ diner, and I hadn't dined out since 2 Marches ago, so we hit a place near her hotel, and the next day got doughnuts in Nyack and sat near the Hudson. Plus I was able to exchange my first hugs since winter 2020!

listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Annabella and Irene! It was the absolute best. If we're really lucky, we'll see each other next March at the planned editing conference for 2022, but it's in TX, so we'll have to see if case counts have calmed down. If it does go off it's gonna be a thorough RAGER of a meeting after the hiatus.

That's cool about your friend visiting, Irene. I hope you didn't take him/her to the Mets games this weekend. It's brutal. Particularly last night

Avatar 12:31pm

Definitely not looking good for the Mets right now. I'm rooting for the Reds and it looks like they might miss the playoffs too.

nice, extra-slow version of "sunflower" - i love this tune!
Avatar 🥁 1:34pm
YETI BOB:

(The sunflowers in my yard are about 9 feet tall now, nothing little about them anymore)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Irene Trudel:

Nice that you have space to grow sunflowers, YETI BOB. I miss having a garden as an urban dweller.
Avatar 🥁 1:50pm
YETI BOB:

I live in a dense urban neighborhood, but our building has a tiny front yard, which is a real rarity (and the reason we chose this apartment). It's the only one on the block with a yard, and I've planted lots of flowers. Sorry it's gloomy in NY, it's a perfect, not-too-hot, summer day here and the bees are buzzing.
Avatar 🥁 1:51pm
YETI BOB:

There used to be a building in front of us - this is a "coach house" - but the front building burned down decades ago and was never rebuilt. So we get to have a front yard, less than 2 miles from downtown Chi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Irene Trudel:

That sounds really nice, YETI BOB. Empty spaces in cities are really important escapes, however small.
Avatar 🥁 2:00pm
YETI BOB:

Yeah, during the lockdown, gardening helped me preserve at least a little bit of my sanity.

Our cat would never forgive us if we didn't keep a garden in the front yard. It's his personal lounge resort.

Sean in Bristol UK:

Just back walking my pupster, just wonderful music to listen to during the perambulation. Thank goodness for the WFMU app
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
Irene Trudel:

Glad to set the mood for you, David! βrian, I hope your cat stays safe there. I've lost too many cats to road accidents when our family lived in the suburbs.
  2:34pm
Listener Robert:

Wow, that one ended with the expectation of another stanza.
  2:36pm
Listener Robert:

You know, something like, "...and evil lived another day. And then the boatman stopped somewhere for lunch, and said you'd never believe what just happened to me." You know, something to wind both the music and the story down.
  2:38pm
Listener Robert:

Instead, both the tune and the story get left hanging on the point of, "another day." It just doesn't sound like an ending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Irene Trudel:

I know Robert! It may have resolved on the next track, which was the album's closer, but I chose to end it there.
