Good afternoon, Irene,, hello one and all. Great photo, guessing here, Hudson or East River? Gorgeous afternoon here in North Somerset, a bit of BBQ action during your show methinks.

Hi Robert, James and David. David, are you hearing rumours of a possible two week heat wave next month? We haven’t had a decent August in years.

Sean - To be honest I've slightly lost track of what's supposed to be happening weather wise. A two-week heatwave sound good, but I'm not holding my breath (except during flooding).

I am a bit of a gospel fan and this film ticked all the boxes. But yes, Sphere, it was special
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
alanr:

@sphere But kudos to Questlove to decide to include Sharrock in the film, since they had the horrible task of deciding who is in and who doesn't make the cut. Gives a sense of Questlove's deep knowledge of the music and the significance of such "lesser knowns" as Sharrock.

Afternoon all. Very Manic Monday in progress here.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Irene Trudel:

Me too, sphere, but he was a part of Herbie Mann's band at the time. So many performances from ensembles I grew to love from our local Am Radio station, 77 WABC, as well as artists I didn't know as well. There were a few flaws but overall the film was amazingly good. Now I want the box set DVD with the complete performances.

Sean, I was going to look for a soundtrack before today's show but didn't have enough time. ther's something up with that title but it's not a soundtrack to the movie performances. I suspect there's rights issues to be worked out.

Indeed, northguineahills. Herbie doesn't get enough respect, likely because he did so many pop covers.
Avatar 🥁 1:56pm

As far as I can sniff out, there doesn't seem to be a soundtrack album associated with Summer of Soul.

Disappointing, but not completely implausible given that there might be an associated clearance nightmare. Maybe one might still come out later!

My father in law, was a face on the scene in Swinging London, told me about the Softs playing with the Floyd at the Roundhouse in '66. They had a motorbike miked up during the set and afterwards they rode it in circles round the perimeter of the venue. I think someone else drove over a massive LSD-infused jelly in a van, too.
