This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

@Rev: realizing I really need to hear the records of his that I don't yet know – very curious about that last one, "Mind Storm, the final album he made prior to his emphatic retirement, Burchette used “pink sound,” a phenomenon known in acoustical science to open the mind to thrilling psychic revelations, setting down two side-long pieces that form a reflecting crystal ball for squalls of deep brain imagery."

Truly one of the most beloved sides of a record of my life, this Don Cherry
Avatar 9:29pm
Flash Strap:

Great lineup too:
Bass – Arild Andersen
Cornet, Gamelan [Gender, Saron], Flute [Bengali Flute In A, Bamboo Flute In C, Metal Flute In B Flat, Plastic Flute In C], Performer [Haitian Guard], Bells [Northern Bells], Voice, Composed By – Don Cherry
Drums, Gamelan [Saron], Gong, Bells, Voice – Jacques Thollot
Guitar – Sonny Sharrock
Piano, Piano [Prepared] – Joachim Kühn
Tenor Saxophone, Oboe, Clarinet, Flute – Bernt Rosengren
Trombone – Albert Mangelsdorff, Eje Thelin
Vibraphone, Piano, Gamelan [Gender] – Karl Berger
Avatar 9:30pm
Flash Strap:

Thollot in particular really ascends to higher planes on this record, I think
Avatar 9:36pm
Flash Strap:

i remember being very young, buying this in total ignorance because I read it was good and hoping for another Brown Rice, and experiencing that very rewarding sort of listen that comes when the music is nothing like you expected but – you bought it jack, you better learn to appreciate it. I spent ages inside this record, just learning about listening
Avatar 9:37pm

WR:

I had somewhat similar experience with John Coltrane Live in Seattle. I had heard some of the early Atlantic Coltrane recordings which I enjoyed OK but they didn't really grab me. Then Live in Seattle was like running into a wall and not knowing what hit us. My friend and I decided to sit down and deep listen to it (and got very stoned) and it lifted us up and the walls melted, or something like that. 😁
Avatar 9:49pm
Flash Strap:

that is my greatest wish and sweetest goal HD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
coelacanth∅:

Flash @930 Thank you for articulating that. i experienced it several times - sometimes growing to love it, other times not...but folks now my age when i did that don't get that because most of the time they don't pay for the music so they don't give it much of a chance (which is likely a big part of why most "millenials" and "zoomers" listen to shallow crap...no substance but easy to humm along with)
