I'm seeing them for the first time in Oct in NY at Radio City...can't wait!

Ursula1000:

hi Rich! Yesssss!

Oh, maybe your Divine show opened a cosmic portal or something because I found a Divine 12" in the otherwise crappy Goodwill near my work yesterday.

oooh nice one Rich! which single?

I never went through a Goth phase. Maybe when I turn 60.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm

i'm about to take you with me to powerwash - shouldn'tve put on the mascara before heading to the water park
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Rich in Washington:

Or I was latent goth and didn't know it. I loved horror and dark themed music in the late 80s.
Avatar 12:13pm
ARB:

I never had a goth phase either, I went straight from cowgirl to crustpunk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Rich in Washington:

I never had a cowgirl phase. That I remember, anyway.
Avatar 12:15pm
Ursula1000:

same Rich. Loved the music but always straddled many genres at the same time--probably more of a post punker with little bits of New Romantic/New Wave sprinkles
Avatar 12:15pm
ARB:

You didn't grow up in Kansas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Rich in Washington:

I was so bad that dudes would drive by and yell out their windows "PICK A FUCKING SUBCULTURE ALREADY!"
It was humiliating.
Avatar 12:16pm
Ursula1000:

what the alternative scene like there ARB?
Avatar 12:16pm
Ursula1000:

LOL Rich!
Avatar 12:17pm
ARB:

In the 90s there was as surprising amount of access to underground stuff, it was Kansas City so I wasn't that sheltered.
Avatar 12:18pm
ARB:

But it was the 90s so there was a lot of 3rd wave ska and early emo/screamo and hardcore, I didn't like any of that but didn't have a lot of other options for live events
Avatar 12:19pm
ARB:

And bands called The Sex Offenders and stuff like that
Avatar 12:20pm
Ursula1000:

growing up in Miami Beach the alternative scene was very Industrial, Goth and some random bits here and there. We had to drive to Atlanta to see the things that didn't make it down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh, Specimen! Love the Batcave adjacent bands.
Avatar 12:25pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Rich in Washington:

There was a fun late night radio show in the 80s in my town called Midnight Gallery and now that I think of it, it was all what we would call Goth nowadays.
Avatar 12:34pm
Ursula1000:

ooof I swear that's the last time I play that Sheena blast! haha
Avatar 12:35pm
Otis:

Virgin Prunes, very very nice.
Avatar 12:37pm

if your bass wasn't plugged into a flanger or phaser fx pedal, you weren't channeling the 100% Goth Sound!

Stomped on with your knee-high platform boots.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm

Yeah, totally! Flanged bass!

that first Killing Joke album really inspired a lot of guitarists too---this reeks of that sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm

Yeah. And John McGoech. He was super influential too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Rich in Washington:

When I was a Cramps completist, I tracked down Bryan Gregory's post Cramps band Beast. It's very Goth but also rather doomy and apocalyptic. Almost Neo-Folk way before that was a thing.
Avatar 12:55pm
Ursula1000:

how interesting Rich---was reading up on Beast and it turns out that band fused into a band I played earlier...The Veil!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Rich in Washington:

That's right!. Beast wasn't Bryan's band, per se. He only played on a couple of their singles. Veil was great but I know very little about them.
