Mr Fab:

Hey there cats n kitties! Yes, there was indeed a glam stomper on the first ABBA album. The song title escapes me, but it’s one of the few things they did were the fellas sing, not the gals.

Cheree July:

God, when I used to live in PA, I used to go to record fairs there & ask if they had any Bonnie St. Claire & Unit Gloria records, none of the dealers knew who I was talking about in the 2000s. At least you guys know👍

like show bands?
schlager bands?
Avatar 3:38pm
Mr Fab:

I was gonna say, sounds like the Irish version of schlager.
  3:39pm
Cheree July:

Warch Out by ABBA is Glam
  3:39pm
Robert Dayton:

Ah ok. There were show bands in Canada. Were there no show bands in the USA?
Avatar 3:41pm
Andrew Hollywood:

Preach it cheree
Avatar 3:41pm
Naughty No No:

Not in the USA no
  3:42pm
Robert Dayton:

Wow, I had no idea! This definitely adds a wrinkle to my research. I know some of the Canadian show bands were influenced by Sha Na Na and such, there was that kind of intersection.
Avatar 3:45pm
Mr Fab:

the American equivalent were the lounge acts, but they didn’t have th matching loud outifts, and were more jazzy then oom-pah. Not too similar on the surface, but i think that they kind of occupied the same place in the entertainment biosphere.
  3:47pm
Robert Dayton:

Many of the Canadian showbands played Holiday Inn lounges and such and often did have the outfits. The Carlton Showband is a Canadian act that hewed close to the Irish formula
  3:48pm
Cheree July:

This record sounds like the Junkshop Glam version of the Music Machine.
Avatar 3:49pm

Avatar 3:57pm
Naughty No No:

I'll explain better in the break =)
  3:59pm
Robert Dayton:

thanks for this info Mr Fab and Noah, I had been writing about Canadian showbands but had no idea showbands were unknown in the USA, I have added a bit of clarifying info (I am literally writing my Canadian Glam book while listening to this).
Avatar 4:00pm

Avatar 4:52pm
Naughty No No:

  4:52pm
Robert Dayton:

There was a terrible Canadian band also called Dillinger who dressed as gangsters shooting fake guns into the audience, they came out of a Sha Na Na faux 50's style Canadian showband
Avatar 4:53pm
Naughty No No:

Robert , had I known you were listening today I wouldve brought more Canadian stuff but you prolly know it all already =)
  4:55pm
Robert Dayton:
