When I saw Grant Hart at the Brighton Bar in 2009, I asked him the name of the New Jersey town where I saw Hüsker Dü play in 1984. He couldn't remember either. The show was in a place called "New York South", banked on the Delaware River between Trenton and Bordentown. Randy Now started his all-ages shows there before moving them to City Gardens.
Avatar 12:47pm
Jeezy:

Joe, thank you for vindicating me! As a high school kid in the late 80s trying to be cool, it was forbidden to claim major label Warehouse was the Du's best LP... but I also thought it was! Unfrotunately, it does not seem like you will be able to cure my other Husker-related issue from that period. I declined to take the train from Jersey in 87 or so to see them at the Ritz assuming the newly-released Warehouse might not get a ton of play. Of course, they played through the entire amazing album straight! (insert screaming in agony emoticon) :()

I had an interesting experience (of re-entry) over the weekend. Went to a cool antiques co-op for the first time in 16 months. I found it to be sort of overwhelming....not so much that there were other people there but just...all the stuff!

I guess having reality reduced to just being in the house has changed how I perceive things. Anyway...really not what I was expecting at all.

I read that Ray Davies performed in Manhattan years ago backed by Yo La Tengo (Condo Fucks). At the band's suggestion, they played that great Kinks song "This is Where I Belong". After finishing, Ray admitted it was the first time he sang the song since he recorded it!

Joe, Woods, we went out for dinner on Friday night, sat outside, and saw someone's butt! A couple went out to get a bomber from the bodega, and one of them decided a shawl that kind of covered her front was enough for a warmish Friday evening. I guess the city is coming back?

I saw Ginger Baker one time right after he'd put out "Middle Passage." After a couple of tunes he took to the mic and said that if anybody had come to hear some music from Cream, they were going to be disappointed.

It was a great show. Baker, a percussionist, and two bass players.

This has me thinking back to high school French:
À Point - (Pronounced ah pwa). Perfectly cooked. À point is used in the French kitchen for any food perfectly cooked, not just steaks! Forget what the guidebook says. For a steak, a point does not mean medium-rare! When an Italian chef wants perfect pasta, he or she will say al dente. In France for the same perfect pasta, a French chef would say à point: perfectly cooked. A steak in France cooked “ à point,” will be rare-to-medium-rare, with the accent on the rare. Rare-to-medium-rare is how the majority of Frenchmen and women prefer their steak and that is "à point", perfectly cooked.

absolutely: tectonic. every show has a genre of music arts and culture identity that seeks to uncover newly found or lesser known classics and contextualize them in emergent contemporary.

A Message from Station Manager Ken --

"The city of Jersey City has asked WFMU to prove that its programming has educational value, as a condition of keeping its tax exemption. This is a serious matter to the financial health of the station.

As part of this effort, we're asking our listeners to provide letters or emails explaining how and why WFMU's programming has not just entertained them, but has also provided educational value. The educational value can be related to the history and relationship between culture or ideas, or more direct value such as information about any matters of public importance. Tell us how you have gained knowledge through the time you have spent listening to WFMU.

This is a serious effort to address an important disagreement WFMU is having with the city of Jersey City. Whether you are an educator, a student or merely a student of life, please help us out with a thoughtful letter or email, and please keep them to 300 words. Letters should address the City of Jersey City, and can be emailed to helpus@wfmu.org by May 28th. Thank you for your help."

Also, reposting my comment from WAB this morning:

"So let's all put these thoughts in letters! If anyone hates writing and just can't stand the thought of putting together, 300 words, contact me through my profile and send me your bullet points or summary, and I'll draft a letter and send it back to you so you can submit it. Use this stupid master's degree for *something* worthwhile."

@David Shortell: Short answer: "assume the point is already proved." It's from Latin, so "question" is a little misleading.

Thanks, Joe! It always ends way too soon! It's the exact opposite of a business meeting. You're the unbusinessest!

Hydrate, get vitamins - prepare for a day or two of aches & low energy... Maybe most of all...bring something to do or listen to while you wait 15 min.s afterwards !
