How do, Tony and all! Good day to hide inside a giant burro and listen to the station.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:01pm
listener james from westwood:

Or reindeer. I'm a copy editor, not a zoologist!

@james - that's my life, all day, every day. and not a bad life at all
Avatar 12:03pm

Hiya, James! I was going to say ... careful, burros can kick. Try hiding inside a burrito instead.

at least my burro has a sunroof

Hiya heya, Spodi!

By weird coincidence, I actually *am* planning to get a burrito after the show.

Rascal Reporters! The band up the street from me!

Hey, Nick! This is their latest....

first time ever hearing rascal reporters. getting zappa vibes for sure
Avatar 🥁 12:21pm
Nick S.:

Under new management. My friend who produced them for years gave up the rights to a guy in Scotland.
Avatar 12:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, ZZZ! Yes! Rascal Reporters are a unique mixture of Zappa, Henry Cow, Canterbury bands like Egg, the Residents, and the Carpenters ... and, of course, a big dollop of their own unique sound.
Avatar 🥁 12:26pm
Nick S.:

To me Rascal Reporters music and output are astonishing. The sacrifice they made to do that was everything. My friend told me a bit about them. An incredible story.

listener james from westwood:

That Wendy and Bonnie was a delight!
Avatar 12:28pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Nick: Yes, without getting into details, things got pretty bad for them for a while.
Avatar 12:29pm
Tony Coulter:

And ... here they are again....
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

@ James: Wendy and Bonnie are sisters, and their *real* last name is highly appropriate: Flower.
Avatar 🥁 12:30pm
Nick S.:

Here but where? That was always they're dilemma. Do we keep making this fascinating music or not? No one cares. Anyway, I'll be ordering the redux now.

Everything on Palace of Lights from the late '70s and '80s is well worth hearing, I think.

something very 1981 about this sound (in a way that ages well)
Avatar 1:23pm
Tony Coulter:

The lyrics are very intriguing too -- the way the questions and responses are out of synch.
  1:26pm
Mark Williams:

Artery are an odd band for me, because I caught one instance of them without hearing the earlier version of them. This is the earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Threemoons:

Heyo.
Avatar 1:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Whereas I don't know their later incarnation. I gather the sound is pretty different?
Avatar 1:28pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, heyo, Threemoons!
  1:28pm
Mark Williams:

There was a track on a Cherry Red comp and they felt a part of the "scene" that nurtured, say, The Nightingales.
Avatar 1:33pm
Tony Coulter:

The label names of the last four tracks would make a good band name: Fractal Aardvark and the Parsley Propeller.
  1:37pm
Mark Williams:

so, years ago I learned that one of the folks in the Mothmen went on to be a key player in the reggae reissue label Blood & Fire. Makes sense, since the Mothmen did a record on ON-U Sound as well.
Avatar 1:37pm
Tony Coulter:

Interesting!
  1:38pm
Mark Williams:

Bob Harding is his name.
  1:47pm
Mark Williams:

you played the flipside of this Pre Fix a few months back and I'd never heard it before. Love this single.
Avatar 1:49pm
Tony Coulter:

I do too. Too bad it's the only thing they released.
  1:50pm
Mark Williams:

I saw that. No clue who they were and where they may have gone to afterwards.
  1:54pm
Mark Williams:

I actually lived in Belgium for about 7 months in late 1980/early 1981. I have a vague sense of 'what was in the water' there that helped produce the likes of Subject and the whole "Insane Music" crowd.
Avatar 1:56pm
Tony Coulter:

Maybe a bit of it was the rusting industrial thing -- ala Akron.
  1:57pm
Mark Williams:

yeah, a bit, no doubt. There are lots of shades of gray there.

Avatar 2:23pm

True fact: My best friend in high school took guitar lessons with the guitarist for City Limits (on now).

Their guitarist was John Berenzy -- I met him once back then.
