Really Hard to schedule shots in New Jersey. My younger daughter, who's a teacher, and nervous about returning to the classroom, couldn't schedule one. Places would open slots at midnight, and they'd be gone before she could finish booking the slot. The only way she (and my older daughter) got them was through help of her boyfriend, who's a computer geek (works for Google...). He wrote a program that found open slots and booked one before it was taken.

'60s and '70s were probably the best years for a regional (or even solidly "local") record to get national airplay in the states, even if it were occasionally or somewhat fluke-ish.

yes
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm

@Erica - Yes! That's what drew me to the record.

Thorin Oaken Shields brother?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Matt from New Orleans:

@Larry I read that as I founded... and I was like wasn’t Larry a kid back then and then my brain started working again

Funky16Corners:

Oh yeah. I was 4 in 1966
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Little Danny:

Man all of these Los Angeles record labels really blur together for me.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Funky16Corners:

This is a California surf group, covering a French band and singing it in a French accent
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Brian in UK:

Was Philips, a Dutch company?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Funky16Corners:

I think it was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Yup a subsidiary of the oil company now called ConocoPhillips which makes sense as vinyl is a petroleum byproduct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Little Danny:

Founding members of the original Sandals were Belgian, so perhaps the accents weren't so affected.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Funky16Corners:

@Danny - I had no idea! Maybe that's how they heard the record in the first place?
Avatar 4:29pm
SquigY0:

oh masculine. toxic :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’m an idiot BTW. I conflated the American oil company with the Dutch multinational corporation. There’s no connection aside from a similar name.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Funky16Corners:

I would have made the same assumption
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Michael 98145:

i've got a Masculine Intuition that i've done something wrong again
Avatar 4:34pm
still b/p:

Heard Masculine Intuition in last day or two and couldn't help imagining a couple of women in an audience as it was performed, sitting with their arms crossed and turning to look at each other with eyebrows slightly raised and and and "Oh, really?" expressions on their faces.
Avatar 4:35pm
SquigY0:

heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Little Danny:

The European Phillips label had a esoteric sort of distribution deal with Mercury Records in this country in the '60s. But, under Mercury's aegis, the Philips Records of Thorinshield, Changin' Times, etc. also became essentially a typical American subsidiary label all its own (with no hard connection to Europe). It drew from American artists and was oriented to the American market.

Black Roses was a Clear Light favourite. I think Cliff de Young went on to make TV films.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
