hey adam(di) & spodi!

i had a friend who bought a didgeridoo and decided to learn circular breathing and seemed to be able to do it almost immediately.

Somehow, you're not blowing into the horn from your chest, but filling your cheeks and squeezing them to push air into the horn. You breath through you're nose, using that air to keep refilling the cheeks. Crazy!

Never thought to try to learn circle breathing - but I imagine it must work on the same principle as this "fire breathing" business that yogis do (and which I do, when I do yogi-type stuff) - that is, you don't *direct* your longs to start breathing in as you're blowing (which is of course impossible), but you *allow* them to take air in as they naturally rebound from the forced exhale

Dean:

"Ich rede wie ein Papagei" appears on p.131 of Die fernen nächte;
roman, by Walter Pegel, published in 1943. Here's the context:

  2:13pm
headcleaner:

You'll never be able to take in as much air as from regular breathing, of course. But you'll be able to get a few sips in -- just enough to get a few more blows out, a bit more forcefully.

interesting, that sips of air concept. i took some yoga sessions in trade once, and she directed us to keep taking little sips of air until we absolutely (thought) we couldn't hold any more - then release it all in one forceful blow.
