@Buddha -- in answer to your question from Clay's playlist: rice and beans, tofu, stuff like that -- but even back in high school, one of my science teachers was explaining how one does not need a 10 pound steak every day for protein! and yeah, there are a LOT of "fake meats" out there, but i try to avoid them, most have too many chemicals . . . and one thing i have learned over the years, a lot of foods from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia are already vegan/vegetarian

@YetiBob > Yeah, I'm not so keen either, on the bugs, but I am interested. Insect protein has probably been a staple of the human diet somewhere or other since forever...but it's gaining traction here, just like kimchi, and quinoa, and tofu, and miso, and on and on...roach-farming has got to be a huge business opportunity for somebody. I'll be candid :
Got so poor in 2020 Charity fed me a lot. Round Thanksgiving I got so starving - premade carnivore meals were offered & I thot OK - it's already dead... just this once. I got the instant rush off the meat. Meat is very nutritious - not just complete protein packed into small volume - but iron & zinc & B-vitamins & all this. Tofu is about the same protein by volume - but not the rest of that. (It has other things.)
...Then I very started to get that 'clogged up' feeling meat has... It's the fatty cholesterol & animal poisons - not what meat doesn't have - but what it does have you want to avoid... Growth hormones & antibiotics & indigestible fats... All aside from Cruelty - & I just agree w/ the Buddhists that Less Suffering is the goal... & the Environmental impact of raising animals is vast...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am
StringOFperils:

@RevRabbit > Meat also delivers way less usable energy to the body. The Sun's energy is stored mainly in plants. Once they're eaten once, by a ruminant animal, that energy is reduced drastically, so when you eat that you get significantly less out of it. You find yourself hungry again sooner, because it doesn't deliver enough. Eating animal predators delivers even less. Carnivores had a harder time of it. Big cats, for instance, have to spend all of their time using up all of their energy looking for more food, which leaves them exhausted, and starving. I hope things are looking up for you! Stay strong.

Seafood generally very healthy indeed - depending on what's been in the water - purely the fault of humans.
But it's the same Cruelty issues ...& over-harvesting issues...

Interesting story behind "St. James Infirmary." Like the other song most associated with New Orleans, "House of the Rising Sun," its origins lie far away (HOTRS is apparently from Appalachia originally). I always assumed there had been a hospital here called the SJI (the term "infirmary" was at one time common; I was born at Touro Infirmary), but like the House of the Rising Sun, there never was such a place here. SJI seems likely based on the English ballads "The Unfortunate Rake" and "The Buck's Elegy," both about men dying of venereal disease. The lyrics to "The Buck's Elegy": www.poetrynook.com...

I buried the lede on that one, Ken!

Yes, David, the Quease's triumphant return to obscurity!

("Triumphant Return to Obscurity" the first single, of course.)

Ken: that roadhouse crowd was *not* ready for Pulp's "Common People," which I assumed would unite us in class consciousness. Feeling the need to get the crowd back on my side, I then went with classic rock, which everyone loves! Except apparently for Rush because after "Limelight" I got a "welcome to America!" comment as I went back to sit down. On Kate's hissed advice, I went with "Devil Went Down to Georgia" next and went out on top!
