I was in my ninja gear (my black hoodie and black mask) and rounded the hallway in my hotel, and a large African-American man came up the stairs and was startled by me, and went into a karate stance. Everytime I see the name Cheap Nasties I think of the fictional band on Vinyl, The Nasty Bits which makes me think of how the show blamed the Dolls for the collapse of Mercer Arts (the building couldn't withstand Thunders' power chords)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am
mariano:

DC Snipers: now there's a proper punk band name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am

And The Nasty Bits singer was Mick Jagger's son and he has sex with Juno Temple, the daughter of Sex Pistols documentarian Julian Temple, I think that's all correct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am
TomDash:

ha! ultrad - have you seen the Fran Lebowitz/Scorsese series? She used to see the Dolls all the time and they mention the year the Mercer Arts Center collapsed, THREE buildings just collapsed in the city...cause that just happened in the 70s...

random question, but this is the crowd who would know. does anyone know if Ramapo College's WRPR station still exists? and if not, why not?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am

I have not, but I did see the clip with that music though. She kind of bugs me, maybe it's from seeing her play nice with Bill Maher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am
mariano:

Some recent-ish building collapses/explosions though: Body Elite gym in Carroll Gardens (I used to go there, it's my old hood), then that building in the E. Village that blew up because the owners had messed with the gas lines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am
ultradamno:

Yeah, I don't think the building was actually in use at the time. There was an article literally just about the factual accuracy of that scene online at the time

Sheesh, there's a few...I think I was thinking of this one www.vulture.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am

mariano - I was walking my dog about 8-10 blocks away from the Carroll Gardens bldg pretty much when it happened and was wondering why all these cops were blocking off streets...ultrad - I HIGHLY recommend the Lebowitz series (speaking as a New Yorker and someone who has never watched Bill Maher)

Yeah, Tom, buddy of mine who's a contractor, born and raised in CG, said that it had been waiting to happen for years, people had warned the owner several times over the years, on top of the various code violations he got. Apparently he didn't get jack out of the insurance either. Good. He could've killed someone, miracle nobody was hurt.

I miss that area, I was there for 13 years.

Yeah, Tom! I heard "Lucifer Rise" on Liz Berg's show and I emailed her saying "Tell me everything you know about these guys!" and she gave me your email, I got in touch to ask about the record, you said to stop by to pick one up. I was in a cab on my way to a freelance gig in the city so I was in kind of a rush, but I bought the record and you threw in some other stuff, some 45s, plus the EP had hand-illustrated art. "Lucifer Rise" was my theme song for that year.

*Not that Liz was just carelessly handing out your contact info, we'd known each other through FMU for a few years so she knew I wasn't gonna steal your identity or anything ;) She said you're a really nice guy, and had (have?) that wine shop in the area, etc.

'Night, rw!

Is the eXistenZproblem the part where that port on Jude Law's back port gets infected because the biogame module thing is sick?

My two songs that year were "Lucifer Rise" and "Lupine Dominus" by Thee Oh Sees or however they were writing it back then. Huh, I see that was 2012, maybe my memory's playing tricks on me, thought it was 2010 or '11.

Tom, Mariano, this is a wild story I feel like I'm watching a movie

He better not pardon Stephen Miller, there's talk of potential charges for that whole children in cages...nightmare. I feel like we need that to happen.

NikiA: Just another day in the thrill-a-minute life of me ;)

They've been accelerating the number of executions leading up to now, which is awful, but revealed Chris Hayes' lack of mastery at pronouncing Terre Haute, which is kind of a delight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am
mariano:

You know what'd be really wild is if it was ignatatus driving the cab I took that day, lol. Actually, I found out that @David (in London) knows an ex gf of mine because he was the best man at her wedding years earlier when she was married to this English guy who happened to be David's best friend.

Unless Trump is just tired of pardoning, which is possible, he's meted out over 70
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am
TomDash:

the federal executions is the most under-reported tragedy - FUCK Barr always and forever - the worst Attorney General ever - no 11 and 1/2 hour pass scolding the president...

NikiA:

well Mariano your story about picking up albums from someone's stoop inspired me to buy a cd player online. I want to build my physical cd collection back up again. so you inspired me today!

Jesus Christ, he pardoned Kodak Black. Besides being arrested for illegal weapons possession MULTIPLE times, he's a violent racist to boot. Awful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am
ultradamno:

Are they still just winging it on lethal compounds for these executions? I know Trump wants to go back to firing squads (no, he said this) which he might rethink if he finds out that's what has traditionally been done to traitors.

Possible (very thin) silver lining is that anybody associated with the Trump administration is gonna have a hell of a time finding work in both the public and private sector. I read something a while back about how no law firms or corporations want anything to do with any of those people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am

Yeah, he likes military men who commit atrocities quite a bit too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am

ultra @253 i believe execution is still provided for for convicted traitors.

(but sadly he wont be convicted)

Trump also asked about nuking hurricanes, the very stable genius.
