This year, congratulations are in order at JM in the AM. The occasion is neither grand nor bombastic, but rather heartfelt and humble.
In spite of recent events in the world that have caused bank closures, markets to turn upside-down, and high unemployment, Nachum Segal and his staff at JM in the AM have not only stayed afloat, but have become bigger, stronger, and better than ever.
On top of being there for the JM listeners every weekday morning with a unique mix of Jewish music, news and community info, JM in the AM has actually managed to grow by adding programming and services that connect communities both locally and across the globe. Even during these difficult times, Nachum and his team have added an abundance of new live programming on the JM24 stream, released a popular iPhone app, and hosted more live musical guests than ever before, from the obscure to the legendary.
These are no small feats during a time when institutions previously believed to be rock solid have shuttered. More than anything, JM in the AM's vitality and growth can be attributed to the dedication and generosity of our listeners.
Last year was an exciting and challenging one for JM in the AM and WFMU. Just as we built our new booster antenna in Manhattan, the lease for our main transmitter site in New Jersey was quickly approaching its expiration date. At the same time, the recession hit hard and our finances went south. We postponed addressing some remaining technical issues with our booster last Fall, while we held a rare 1-Day Emergency Marathon to ensure that JM in the AM could exist through the winter. Many listeners came to our aid, for which we are most grateful.
JM in the AM and WFMU emerged triumphant. Our financial woes were staved off and we were able to secure a new lease on our transmitter site in New Jersey. This year, we'd like to remedy the technical issues with our booster, roll out an improved iPhone app, and continue adding new and interesting programming to the popular JM24 stream. We can do it with your help.
