Frequently Asked Questions

Is my pledge tax deductible?

Yes. WFMU is owned and operated by Auricle Communications which is a tax exempt organization recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service. Any donation made to WFMU is tax deductible, less the amount of any goodies you receive in exchange for your pledge. The IRS does not require a receipt except for donations of $75 or more, in which case WFMU will mail you a receipt in January of 2009, or earlier if you request it.

There are so many types of pledges. What's the difference between them all?

Here are the names of the different types of pledges, and how the money from each type is used by WFMU and JM in the AM. (We will honor any special request regarding which fund to put your donation into.)

A Basic Pledge is any pledge from $18 to $359 and is used for JM in the AM's basic operations - keeping the lights and the transmitter on, for example.

A Mouse of Today Pledge is any pledge from $360 to $999 and is used to develop JM in the AM's online presence. In 2008, we hope to expand the amount of live programming on JM24, Nachum's 24/6 online program service. In the last few year, we've added a weekly Thursday Live Lunch, and we hope to expand this concept even further in 2008. The Mouse of Today fund is also used to maintain JM in the AM's live streaming, archives and all the infrastructure that goes into these activities.

A JM Future Fund Pledge is any pledge $1000 or higher. We use these donations to address WFMU and JM in the AM's long-term financial health. In 2008, Future Fund pledges will be used to start an endowment for JM in the AM and WFMU, and to build a New York City transmitter, which could substantially improved over-the-air reception of WFMU throughout the tru-state area.

How can I make a pledge?

There are four ways to pledge. First, you can pledge online from this very page. Second, you can call 800-989-9368 24 hours a day (from February 25th to March 7th). Third, you can use the Marathon brochure which was mailed in Februrary to everyone on our mailing list. Fourth, you can mail a check made out to "WFMU" to PO Box 2011, Jersey City, NJ 07303-2011.

How can I pay my pledge?

You can pay your pledge by check or money order made out to "WFMU," or by credit card or PayPal. We prefer checks, but WFMU also accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. We will mail out a payment form to you and you can mail a check or the credit card info back to us in a pre-posted envelope which we will supply. Our website is secure, so you can safely input your credit card information onto our pledge page.

We also offer PayPal as a payment option for listeners who have a PayPal account. If you choose the PayPal option, then after you submit your pledge, you will receive a link to a PayPal page on which you can send your payment to WFMU.

Many listeners prefer to pay their pledges, especially larger pledges, in monthly installments or credit card charges. We are able to accomodate this request for pledges of $350 and higher. If you prefer to pay your pledge by installment, please indicate this in writing when you make your first payment, or check the appropriate payment option on the pledge page.

What if I don't pay right away?

We will send a payment form to you during or just after the March marathon. If you are unable to pay, we will send you a follow-up payment form in May 2008, and we will hold on to any prizes you may have won for 10 months. If you still cannot pay in May, you can request that we charge your credit card at any later date which you specify.
