Special Appeals To Our Most Dedicated Listeners

Help keep WFMU's streams flowing for a dollar a day

In 1994, WFMU posted a handful of songs online, half suspecting that web-based music was a trend that might go the way of CB Radio. Fourteen years later, more people are listening to WFMU over the web than over the air, and it's clear that online music is here to stay.

On one hand, this is great--we're no longer bound by the FCC's geographic restrictions. But on the other hand, it's been expensive, since broadcasting has a fixed cost regardless of how many people listen, while each web listener increases the costs of online transmission.

Fortunately, we have an ace in the hole that's allowed us to develop WFMU's online offerings into the envy of radio stations worldwide. Listeners pledging $365 or more (payable in ten monthly installments of $36.50) make possible all of our online offerings, including our live streams, archives and podcasts, as well as our blog and voluminous website. It's what has allowed WFMU to be the first radio station in the world to offer a live stream for iPhones and live comment-enabled playlists.

The Mouse pledge is payable in ten monthly installments of $36.50, or any other payment plan you prefer. In return, a bottomless well of swag will appear at your doorstep, including any seven DJ premiums, our new bumper sticker and T-shirt, an item from our prize warehouse and our first ever zip-up hoodie sweatshirt--twelve ingots of material gratitude in all. If you'd like to spread your love out among different WFMU shows, just check off the "WFMU Prize Account" box on the pledge page by March 3rd.

The Y3K Solution Fund

Most public radio stations have large endowments and even larger parent institutions to fall back on. WFMU has neither, but thanks to the people who've donated to the Y3K Solution Fund, we've grown the most important nest egg of all--our own building. By taking all donations $1000 or higher and turning them into long term equity for WFMU, we no longer fear eviction, and we have a valuable asset that we can fall back on in times of trouble.

Still, as much security as we have in owning our own digs, there's a lot to be said for a bank account that generates enough interest to make a difference. And this year, that's what the Y3K Solution Fund aims to do. While basic donations help keep WFMU on the air, donations of $1000 or more will stay with WFMU forever. Throughout 2008, our fiftieth anniversary year, we hope to get more $1000 pledges than ever, and to actually start an endowment fund which will generate ongoing income for WFMU.

To entice your Y3K pledge, you'll get not only a tax deduction from the IRS and a giant box of WFMU swag, but you'll also receive the WFMU Box of Love, including a signed special edition of The Best of LCD book, a CD of MP3s from past DJ premiums, a 40 page special edition of the material that was too risqué for the LCD Book and much more.

To help with the Y3K fund, choose an amount and a payment option on the pledge page and choose your swag.

We hope you can help with the Mouse or Y3K campaigns, or by making a regular pledge of any amount whatsoever by calling us toll-free during the Marathon at 800-989-9368 or by making a secure online pledge.
