Jim Flora
Author, Archivist, Preservationist
My second book: The Mischievous Art of Jim Flora (published by Fantagraphics, 2004). 1940s-'50s album cover designer and hand-press illustrator who made the world look like a kindergarten toy room gone anti-gravitational. The 2007 followup, The Curiously Sinister Art of Jim Flora (co-authored with Barbara Economon) proves that Flora should be known for more than jazzy LP covers and cuddly tot-lit. His rarely seen paintings, sketches, woodcuts, and prints reveal a darker, more diabolical side of this underappreciated illustrator. Our third Flora omnibus, The Sweetly Diabolic Art of Jim Flora, will be published in Fall 2009. Since late 2006, we have been marketing a line of fine art prints of selected Flora works.
