This show was originally broadcast on Transpacific Sound Paradise
("Popular and Unpopular Music from Around the World") with Rob Weisberg,
heard Saturday evenings 7-9pm EST on NJ non-commercial freeform station
WFMU.
It is presented here in conjunction with the 2001
Rootsworld Free Reed Festival.

On this archival broadcast, accordionist and master showman Yuri Lemeshev, from Russia by way of Brooklyn performs selections from his extensive repertoire of cabaret songs, pop songs, Russian folk songs, movie songs and more. In between live songs, Rob spins accordion-centered records from around the world.

Yuri plays the cabaret scene as well as the experimental scene. His latest group effort is the ensemble Tridruga with Brad Shepik and Tony Scherr. Tridruga's self-titled debut cd is on Love Slave Records (http://www.lvslv.com). He's also collaborated with Les Trois Accordeons, Bob Tilson, Matt Darriau and Frank London among others. And he's been house accordionist at Japan Disneyworld! Or did I dream that? You'll have to ask Yuri...

Yuri Lemeshev's solo cabaret recording Live at Jules is available from Main Squeeze, http://www.echonyc.com/~squeeze/mainmenu.html

This program originally aired live in the fall of 1996. Unfortunately the playlist is AWOL - enjoy the music!
