Tom Van Buren of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance highlights his group's work with immigrant musicians in NYC,
including production of a new series of cds on the Smithsonian Folkways label, and concerts in May at the World Financial Center
(W.F.C.) in New York and June-July at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC.
One of those musicians joined us in the first hour: Andriy Milavsky of the New York based Ukrainian ensemble Cheres,
a group based in the Soviet-era state folk ensemble tradition,
who will perform at the Smithsonian festival in Washington the last weekend in June.
