Starting at 7.30: A visit with Transjoik, a band from Norway that mixes traditional Sami vocal joiks (live and sampled) with a broader range of gutteral singing, percussion inspired by shamanic drumming, electric guitar and beat-heavy electronics. Transjoik is one of several groups and artists in Scandinavia seeking to sustain the culture of the indigenous Sami people by interpreting Sami traditions in new ways.
