Live improvisations by David Grubbs (reed organ, guitar), Noël Ackchoté (electric guitar), Quentin Rollet (sax), and Charlie O. (Farfisa)

Since leaving Gastr del Sol, David Grubbs has been recording a varied array of music. Some folks might know his work with Squirrel Bait, Slint, Bastro and Bitch Magnet. Grubbs released a solo albumof songs titled "The Thicket" and has played with The Red Crayola. Most recently David has been in Paris, recording improv and instrumental music with Noël Ackchoté, Quentin Rollet, and Charlie O. for Rectangle Records, a French label. Ackchoté and Rollet run Rectangle Records, which has released several of their albums of improv. (The two are pictured on Rectangle's homepage.) Additionally, Rectangle has released "The Coxcomb", a musical version of the Stephen Crane short story called "The Blue Hotel," which featured both David and Quentin.

On this particular radio show, the four performed an hour-long, uninterrupted improv-- a darkly wonderful textured soundscape for a mid-December afternoon. When WFMU works out the bugs for us to archive programs, I hope to make this available as a file for you to listen to.

David Grubbs recently moved to Brooklyn, NY, so hopefully he'll grace WFMU's airwaves more often.
